Girls’ Golf Season Leading into States

On Monday, October 24th, 2022, the Mater Lakes girls golf team competed in districts. Districts occurred at the Grand Palms in Pembroke Pines. As a team and individual competitor, the girls qualified for regionals from their victory in districts. The team won runner up in districts over six teams. Gia Culler Guerra won 1st place as a medalist for individuals. She was the only girl to win under par against 33 other competitors. So, with this success, they travel on to regionals. This is the first year the team has made it to regionals. Coach Eddie Escribano stated that the team truly did improve this year overall and is very proud of them. Regionals took place at the Plantation Preserve and Country Club on November 1st, 2022. The golf team won 6th place out of 12 teams. For individuals, Gia tied with another and went into a 7-hole playoff. She won at the 7th hole, placing her in 1st place at regionals. She shot a score of 3 under par. This, indeed, qualified her for states on November 15th at Mission Inn at Howey in the Hills. Her coach is proud to announce that she won 6th place out of 97 girls. The top 6 girls were given medals. Mater Lakes is very proud of the team’s growth into regionals and Gia’s success all through States in the 2022 season.
